Baby Photoshoot - In a nutshell

A photoshoot is an event you must experience, especially a baby photography session, which is filled with lots of excitement. On their toes all the time, their energy levels are unmatchable. It is no secret that getting a baby to pose for us is a very difficult task.

Coordinating different elements of a photo session, namely colors, backdrops, props, outfits, themes, etc., is a task that needs vision, loads of patience, and passion to execute it. Be it a happy moment or a tantrum they throw, the memories are to be preserved forever. So, why go through all of this for a photoshoot ? Why should you actually do a baby photoshoot ? Take a look around; read on and enjoy!

Why should you do a photoshoot ?

‘Time flies’ - a quote that we very often listen. In my opinion, one thing that all parents would agree is that their kids have grown up very fast making them wonder when time flew by. Those tiny rolls, the first time they look at you to smile, their first words, the first time they walk, and lots of other firsts. Those years are so precious that it’s important to keep those memories alive. Agree ?

Capturing them to relive those moments is the perfect way to reflect on the the good times. Because looking back at them will sure be your daily dose of happiness.

Cherish the love that melts your heart

Every parent would want to memorize those cute rolls of their newborns, the first time they crawled, the first time they smashed the cake, the sibling bondings, those laughs, cries and many more such wonderful emotions.

I sure captured many different moods and emotions of my little one. When I look at these beautiful photos I've captured throughout my baby's childhood, I am in awe - of how big he is growing, of how tiny his clothes used to be, of how he made up words to explain his emotions, of how far we've come. Look at a few of them below.

Family activities that can be done with photographs

As a family, there are some fun activities you could do with those pictures too. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to spend time with family without being glued to the gadgets ? Here are some fun activities you can do with the pictures:

  • Re-live their childhood moments as parents

  • Make the kids sort them according to their age in the pictures

  • Use the images to tell the story of their childhood

  • Create a family tree with pictures from past

  • Create photo puzzles and solve them as a family

Try these activities and let me know if you liked them.

Activities with photographs as a family

Capture the moments creatively

This will be the best opportunity to bring out the creative person in you. Babies can't express their interests yet, because of which you get to choose what's best for them. Themes, outfits, colors, props - coordinating all of them to get the perfect look you are craving for will be so much fun that the entire process will be so exiting. As a professional photographer, this is an opportunity that I fondly anticipate.

Why hire a professional photographer ?

In this era of high resolution cameras in mobile phones, is it necessary to get a Baby photoshoot done ? Is it necessary to hire a professional baby photographer? From the day a baby is born, they will be photographed every day - their new outfits, their smiles, coos, giggles, in sleep, etc.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll have thousands of photographs of your baby on your phone capturing these daily and weekly developments. But, how many of them would you actually print or have a back up of ? Here are 5 reasons why I think hiring a professional photographer would be worth it.

1. The stress-free experience

Having a baby comes with lots of things on your plate and not to mention, the tiredness and restlessness! There’s so much change, so much to learn, and it’s all happening at once. You may be feeling like you have no free time. So, hiring an expert will allow you to sit back, relax, while the photographer takes care of planning and executing the session. It is a totally stress-free experience!

2. Gets the best out of your kids

'My kids won’t behave’ - this is one of the most common concerns I hear from parents when I talk to them before a photoshoot. A professional photographer’s experience of photographing babies and families will give you the pure and natural emotions you are looking for because they know how to get the best out of kids.

3. Keeps your baby safe

Profession baby photographers are highly experienced when it comes to working with babies. Especially with newborns, safety is the top most priority. From working out the details on setups, colors, props to posing them in different angles, they will handle in a patient manner.

4. You will be in the photographs

The most important of all, you being in the picture. It is often likely that you or your partner would be missing in the picture because one you has to be behind the camera. This happens to my family. Me being the photographer, I would often be missing from the pictures, which is why we will get our professional photographs taken occasionally so we can all be in them together.

5. You will see them printed

Computers may die, phones may be outdated, hard drives may fail but paper doesn’t. How often do you sit on your phone, and look back through all your old images. Or your computer? Yeah, not often. That’s what I thought. So, a professional photographer will offer you the prints, which beings a smile on your face every time you look at them.

Hiring a baby photographer is one of the best decisions you’ll make for your little one. Professional portraits not only help capture your baby’s emotions, they’ll also offer an unforgettable experience you will cherish forever!

How working with me looks like

You may be wondering how me as a photographer executes a photo session. Especially the newborn and baby photography sessions, which include a lot of artistry? Let me take this opportunity to take you through it, virtually.

Preparation

“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success” - Alexander Graham Bell

Preparation is always the key when it comes to executing a photo session with excellence. Here “prepare” not only means preparing myself for a session but also preparing my clients. As a matter of fact, their willingness to be involved in the session is what makes it more memorable. Besides adequate preparation, a well-executed session requires a vision. According to me, an ideal vision is the one that is shared and cherished by both my client and me.

In general, if you know what you are going to do beforehand, you wouldn’t be fascinated by it. So, I would say, firstly step out of your comfort zone. Secondly, try new things. Next, give it time: Time sure is a magic ingredient when it comes to mastering any skill. I highly recommend these tips and follow them all the time.

4 'C' Process

In addition, I structured a process that I refer to as the “Four Cs” for giving my clients an incredible photoshoot experience. By following these four Cs, I establish a discipline to my work which fetches me the best possible output from a shoot. Let’s take a look at them:

Communication

Hold consultations with clients to better understand their vision and preferences.

To begin with, communication is the key to make the most out of a shoot. First and foremost, I ask my clients if they have any theme/s in mind. Then, I check if they would like to include or exclude any colors in their gallery. For example, some may prefer bright colors and some may favor darks. Therefore, I do my research, just as the little one in the below picture is, and I make sure to know what exactly are they expecting in terms of the theme and setup.

Con'fusion'

Find clarity to eliminate options and align my vision with yours

Con'fusion' or I would rather call it 'Creative Fusion' is my favorite of the 4 'C's. As a newborn and baby photographer, I enjoy not only capturing pictures but also creating unique art for my clients. Usually, creating a setup is the most exciting part of a photo session. It includes coordination of various things namely the colors, props, backdrops, outfits, decor. This is where the artistic mind plays a major role and I enjoy the challenge.

However, when it comes to setting a seal on something, I’m a confused soul. But hey, isn’t that a peculiar trait of a creative person? Without confusion, there is no creativity and without creativity, there is nothing.

So here’s how this goes: I come up with an outline for a session, keeping in mind the expectations of my client. In addition to shortlisting the colors and themes, I also pay attention to creating portraits that would be memorable to a family for the years to come.

However, as soon as the details are all in place, we ought to finalize the session theme/color patterns. And this is where the confusion seeps in. Indoor shoot or Outdoor shoot? Mermaid theme or Fairy theme ? Sounds confusing right ? Well, let’s tackle it in the next step.

Creation

Finalize the session details - setups, timings, venue

As can be seen, we haven’t finalized the session plan yet and are still confused about it. I now have everything is place to make a decision, yet here we are still hanging in the confusion state. This is when I will consider other factors like What time of the day are we doing the session ? Would it be feasible for an outdoor session at that time of the day ? What colors did the clients mention that they prefer ? What's the age of the baby ?

These will help me narrow down my choices to finalize my session plan. You wanna know how ? For instance, let's plan for a 9 month old session. Kids this age more or less have a schedule, that will help us narrow the timing. Now, babies this age will have very little attention span, hence I would plan accordingly. Most of them would develop stranger anxiety, which is why I will choose a location familiar to them. Voila, now we have a session plan and all of our details are set.

Capture

From pre-shoot consultation to post-shoot advice our range of professional services ensure you’ll receive the picture perfect outcome

The day which the clients would have been eagerly waiting for. "Yayyyy ! We are very exited about the session and can't wait" - this is something I hear before my session almost every time. Honestly, words like these inspire me to do better. With my experience and expertise to capture uniquely original moments with my lens, clients are always in store for something special when they turn to me for their photography needs.

Organizing a newborn photography session can feel like a big task. I try to make the experience as fun, stress-free and memorable as possible. Take a look at some of the wonderful feedback people have given me over the years.
